Choosing Ecosystems
Current Choices
We are currently working on:
- Washington, DC
- Burlington, VT
- Austin, TX
- Denver, CO
Data on actively-VC-backed startups are available in E:\projects\vcdb3 in files named Alive2018CityOrState.txt
VC Rankings
We want cities that have some venture capital investment. Ranking US Cities by Venture Capital provides data on those cities.
TIF data
It might also be useful to do cities where we have other useful data. One thing we might use is cities listed in the TIF Project, especially:
- 1.3.1 Chicago,IL
- 1.3.2 Columbus, OH
- 1.3.3 Washington, DC
- 1.3.4 Houston, TX
- 1.3.5 Dallas, TX
- 1.3.6 Vermont -- and so Burlington, VT
- 1.3.7 Dublin, OH
- 1.3.8 Allegheny County, PA -- and so Pittsburg, PA
Other possibilities include:
- St. Louis (TIF data without GIS info)
- Atlanta (appears to have TIF data with GIS info)
- Cincinnati (has TIFs but no data)
Emerging Ecosystems
Note that we have material on some ecosystems in E:\mcnair\projects\ecosystem. These include some Emerging Ecosystems, some of which had blog articles written about them that Ed may be able to recover:
- Austin
- Cincinnati Ecosystem
- Denver
- Houston (lots of information - see A pipeline for Houston startups (pdf))
- St. Louis
