The Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (HMSDC) brings together corporate members and minority business enterprises (MBEs) to expand business opportunities and encourage business growth. It promotes business opportunities with minority entrepreneurs and works to create equal economic opportunities for MBEs in the marketplace. The HMSDC helps MBEs respond to issues that impact their potential for growth and promotes research and services focusing on establishing, developing, and expanding minority-owned businesses.
Services
MBE Certification
A Minority Business Enterprise Certificate increases business visibility, credibility, and provides valuable professional and business mentoring. The Houston Minority Supplier Development Council provides Pre-Certification Workshops the first Thursday of every month to assist in the application and it is strongly recommended to attend.
Networking
HMSDC hosts luncheons to connect businesses, a golf tournament that raises MBE scholarships, mixers, MBE Tours, and a yearly EXPO with over 1,400 participants.
Cost
Certification costs range from $250 to $800 depending on the category of the company.
Criteria
In order to apply for and receive MBE Certification, 51% of the business or the company's stock must be owned by minority group individuals (Asian-Indian American, Asian-Pacific American, African American, Hispanic American, or Native American).
