Early Life
Julia was born in Fairfax, Virginia, to parents Yanchun and Lei Wang. Her father and mother immigrated from Beijing, China, where Yanchun was a professor at Tsinghua University, in 1994 with Julia's sister Lisa to Ames, Iowa, and moved to Fairfax in 1996. When Julia was 3 months old, the Wang family moved to the Bay Area, eventually settling in San Jose, California, where Yanchun and Lei work as software engineers in the Silicon Valley. Julia grew up speaking both English and her parents' native language of Mandarin.
