Brief Background:

Unconventional ecosystems are increasingly becoming a major part of the incubator discussion. With the ease of access to information through the internet, small businesses are able to run their business in smaller cities that are more financially sustainable for their business operations. Smaller cities have cheaper rent, typically lower turnover, and lifestyle may be better.

Minnesota as a state:

Currently, according to Kauffman Indicators of Entrepreneurship Index, Minnesota is on par with the national average in terms of percent of population that starts new businesses at 30%. Additionally, of those startups, approximately 84% are expected to keep surviving after one year. Additionally, from 2005-2015, Minneapolis has moved up in rankings in terms of top U.S. cities by venture capital invested.
